The 5 best physiotherapists in Belfast for effective care and recovery support

Experience with diverse conditions: We sought out physiotherapists whose expertise spans back and neck pain, joint injuries, and post-surgery rehabilitation. The wider their experience, the better they are at creating a program that fits each patient’s individual goals.

Qualifications and ongoing learning: Years of experience count alongside continuous learning. Our priority was physiotherapists who remain up to date with modern techniques, attend professional workshops, and hold relevant certifications to provide reliable care.

Patient-centred approach: The most effective physiotherapists listen closely to your needs and adapt treatments accordingly. We focused on those who’ll walk you through every step and make sure you feel confident and supported during recovery.

Range of treatment techniques: Every patient should get a plan that works and lasts. That’s why we chose therapists skilled in multiple methods—manual therapy, targeted exercises, posture correction, and rehab tools—so care is personalised, and results are long-term.

Patient feedback: We reviewed what past patients said about the professionalism, effectiveness, and overall satisfaction they experienced. Positive word of mouth and online reviews guided us to physiotherapy teams you can trust for your recovery journey.

Sometimes, an injury or illness can leave us feeling physically powerless. Picture someone who’s sprained their back just trying to lift a box, or a person recovering from a bad fall, suddenly struggling to climb stairs or get comfortable in bed.

It could be a friend, a family member, or you. Suddenly, regular tasks like preparing a meal, grocery shopping, or getting out of bed feel overwhelming. Things you once did effortlessly now demand real sweat and effort.

But the good thing is that you won’t be stuck for long. The best physiotherapists in Belfast can help you get moving again with hands-on therapy and practical advice that easily becomes second nature.

How much do physiotherapists charge in Belfast?

Physiotherapists in Belfast typically charge £47 to £70 for an initial consultation and £41 to £50 for follow-ups. Prices vary depending on the clinic, session length, and any specialised treatments required, such as shockwave therapy or hour-long sports massages.

Fusion Physio prides itself on its chartered physiotherapists, whose CSP (Chartered Society of Physiotherapy) membership signals professional credibility. This helps explain why patients praise the team for clear assessments, accurate diagnoses, and impressive knowledge.

What’s more, as MACP (Musculoskeletal Association of Chartered Physiotherapists) members, clients also receive expert care for sports injuries, back pain, and other muscle-related conditions. That includes manageable exercises and tailored rehab programmes.

During initial assessments (from £60) and follow-ups (from £50), many appreciate that staff take the time to understand patient history and always offer advice. Some, however, wish the team could respond more quickly to emergency rescheduling requests.

Still, that hasn’t stopped many from achieving long-term pain relief with their help. Then again, Fusion Physio tends to book up fast—especially in December, when people try to get treatment done before the holidays. We recommend advanced booking.

Pros

  • Reputable CSP & MACP memberships
  • Clear assessments & accurate diagnoses
  • Knowledgeable, caring team
  • Expertise in numerous issues
  • Long-term pain relief

Cons

  • Slow response to rescheduling requests
  • Requires advanced booking

Took the time to understand the history of my injury

“I’d heard some good reports about Fusion and was keen to see if they could help me with a reoccurring sports injury I’ve been getting for over 3 years. The physio, Martin, was outstanding. The knowledge he showed really impressed me. Unlike other physios, he took time to understand the history of the injury and was able to give me some exercises that I could easily do at home. Three sessions later and, touch wood, & not a pain in sight! Honestly, don’t waste your time going anywhere else!”

The best I’ve been to—unrivalled diagnosis, expert treatment, and second-to-none rehab

“I’ve been going to various physios for nearly 30 years with old recurring injuries. I’m delighted I discovered fusion physio several years ago as they are without doubt the best I’ve been to!! Martin and his team are unrivalled in their diagnosis and expert treatment and the rehab they offer is second to none. I recommend them to everyone now. Great work guys!”

Injury rehabilitation, sports physio, post-op care, and online appointments are just some of the services Ascenti Physio offers. With over 25 years’ experience, their highly trained physiotherapists have treated over 1.5 million patients, from office workers to top athletes.

People often talk about the team’s empowering approach, in-depth knowledge of recovery and prevention, and ability to quickly identify issues. Not to mention the great exercises they provide that easily fit into busy schedules, helping clients feel back to 100% within a month.

At £50 to £60, consultations are said to be consistently productive and full of practical advice. The downside is that a few patients felt 30 minutes—sometimes less—weren’t enough to complete a personal treatment plan. They didn’t even want to pay for an extra session.

Ascenti’s pregnancy physio and support for long-term conditions bring good news, though. A lot of pregnant women are now thriving and enjoying the journey with their back pain relieved, while those with arthritis or asthma are coping much better.

Pros

  • Wide range of services
  • Experienced, highly trained team
  • Empowering approach & in-depth knowledge
  • Practical, easy exercises
  • Effective pregnancy & arthritis support

Cons

  • Short consultation times
  • Extra session costs

Experienced in recovery and injury prevention

“I went to physio due to a weight-related / gym related lower back injury. I had 3 sessions with Dawn at Ascenti and she unbelievably knowledgeable and experienced in every aspect of recovery and injury prevention. Dawn provided me with excellent advice to maintain long term recovery and daily mobility to support adopting a healthier lifestyle. I cannot recommend her enough!”

Empowered me to keep going

“Had an overall great experience with Dawn. Had back pain that has progressed well and I am now discharged. I’m empowered to keep going with the exercises I’ve been advised after seeing positive results. Dawn made the goal seem very simple and achievable. Her knowledge was endless and I am grateful for how things have went. I would recommend Dawn at Ascenti to anyone.”

As their name suggests, Belfast Back Care employs general physiotherapists who are also back specialists.

Patients with sciatica and other back injuries turn to them for relief. They finish sessions pain-free, back on their feet, and more mobile.

But that’s not all, because the Belfast Back Care team also does neck and elbow pain, as well as post-op rehabilitation. Alongside manual therapy, they use shockwave treatment and their popular Theraflex, a bionic, air-powered device that restores mobility to the spine’s joints.

The 45-minute initial consultation costs £65, which many find reasonable but some consider expensive. Even with the lower £49 follow-ups, others choose not to return, especially when the number of required appointments isn’t clarified from the start, making budgeting difficult.

Fortunately, most patients remain impressed by how thorough and informative the staff are throughout the process. Add to that the centre’s private gym, where therapy sometimes takes place and exercises are demonstrated for clients to do in their own space.

Pros

  • General physiotherapists & back specialists
  • Broad expertise & pain-free results
  • Shockwave & Theraflex techniques
  • Friendly, thorough, & informative staff
  • Private gym for exercises

Cons

  • Pricey initial consultation
  • Unclear number of sessions

Back pain is now gone

“Been here for two issues I have had, back pain and tennis elbow. Back pain now gone and non persistent. Currently still in treatment for tennis elbow however they have the equipment and also a private gym to show you techniques and exercises you can do in your own gym or at home. Will definitely be back again if more problems arise as their advice worked from previous appointments.”

Lovely staff—helped me get back on my feet and into good physical health

“Staff is lovely and they really know how to help you get back on your feet. I’ve been out of work for the last 6 months due to a back injury and they have helped me get back into good physical health. Almost completely healed thanks to them. Few more sessions and I’m golden. Highly recommend!”

Concerns really do get fixed at Fixit Physiotherapy. Many report long-term improvement in shoulder, back, and ankle issues after treatment, allowing them to move more comfortably. Some even mentioned returning to intense training or running long distances again without pain.

One patient was especially grateful for his assigned physiotherapist’s client-centred approach, adjusting the strategy as they went rather than giving generic exercises. Another liked how the program evolved with their injury, making weekly progress easy to see.

Through it all, the team is said to be supportive and understanding, sharing reassuring knowledge and getting to the root cause of problems. The front desk staff also gets plenty of praise for being welcoming and consistently helpful with queries and scheduling.

Packages include a 10-session Physio Led Training course from £380 and a three-pack sports massage bundle from £99. While most say they’re money well spent, others prefer single sessions (from £70) and find the plans beyond their budget.

Pros

  • Long-term injury relief
  • Personalised, client-centred treatment
  • Supportive, understanding staff
  • Offers packages & bundles

Cons

  • Pricey packages
  • Less budget-friendly options

Tailored, client-centred approach

“This place is outstanding. No other word for it. My physio, Chloe, was excellent – very knowledgeable, supportive, and took a highly systematic approach to my care. That’s what sets Fixit apart from standard physiotherapy. They don’t just give you a set of stock exercises. They take a tailored, client-centred approach. They investigate, problem-solve, and adjust strategy over several sessions to make sure they get to the root cause of your specific problems, providing the exact right corrective exercises you need. I’ve had chronic back problems for over 20 years as a result of a sporting injury, which worsened to daily pain over the past year. I’ve had lots of physiotherapy, but those sessions only provided limited or temporary improvement. However, after 10 sessions with Fixit, I’ve been pain-free now for several months with much better mobility, and the capacity to train to a higher level again. Can’t recommend them highly enough!”

Fixed long-term hip and shoulder issues

“Went to Chloe with a long term hip issue as well as a shoulder issue they were fixed in a matter of weeks! She really knows her stuff and enjoyed the process working with her. She has given me lots of great strength exercises that I wish I knew sooner.”

Patients who came to PhysioWorks either had recent knee surgery or double hip replacement, or were struggling with recurring shoulder and back issues. They found the team’s helpful advice, sports massage, and exercise plans exactly what they needed to ease their pain.

Long-term clients often highlight the relaxed, comfortable treatments delivered with warmth and attention to detail. This extends to their rehab programs and even pilates classes (from £35), described as calming and great for improving flexibility.

Initial consultations start at £44, with subsequent appointments ranging from £42 to £45—each lasting 30 minutes. A common concern among a few patients, though, is the £30 cancellation fee for missed slots, which they feel is high given that sessions cost just over £40.

Despite that, clients have continued to be drawn to PhysioWorks’ dedicated physio rooms and Pilates studio for 20 years. All ages are welcome, and many have a fun, healing experience, particularly with physiotherapists Mark and Debbie.

Pros

  • Helpful advice & effective exercise plans
  • Relaxed, professional treatment environment
  • Calming pilates classes
  • Clean & modern facilities

Cons

  • High cancellation fee

Affable, warm, and very comfortable treatment

“I highly recommend this clinic for all aspects of physiotherapy. I have been attending Physio Works NI For over a year now, being treated by Debbie, the clinic manager for various longstanding issues. Debbies incredible knowledge, diagnostic deductions and subsequent expert treatment are second to none. Her affable approach and warmth make for a very relaxed and comfortable treatment, keep up the great work Debbie, many thanks!”

My knee is recovering well after following the exercise plan and plenty of good tips

“Always a warm friendly welcome at Physioworks. Booked in with Mark as I’d been suffering with a sore knee – happy to say that after a few treatments and after following the exercise plan Mark gave me – my knee is recovering well.  Plenty of good tips going forward and great chat during treatment too! Thank you Mark.”
