1. Olympia Leisure Centre and Spa

Website: https://www.better.org.uk/
Address: 10 Windsor Way, Belfast, Antrim
Contact: 028 9521 9850
Hours: Monday – Friday: 6:00 AM – 10:00 PM, Saturday – Sunday: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Olympia Leisure Centre runs kids’ swimming lessons, where learners benefit from both a 25m main pool and a dedicated teaching area. This separate shallow space gives young beginners aged four and up a calm setting before they move to deeper waters.
On top of that, their early-years SWIMBiES classes let babies as young as three months build basic water confidence beside their parents.
They even schedule children’s classes six days a week, making it simple to find a slot that fits with your errands. Parents can also follow along through an online home portal, so you see weekly skill updates directly from the instructor.
Adult swimmers don’t get the same scheduling luxury, though. Their classes run only two days each week, which means less flexibility if your work shifts.

Great swimming programme for kids and oldies
Very busy amenity in South Belfast. Great swimming programme for kids and oldies. And if you join Betteruk. It’s a fiver for a year. Then free gym, swimming for the year at off peak times.

S.W.I.M. in Carryduff is made up of qualified instructors who teach learners with special educational needs (SEN) and additional support requirements. They can tailor their coaching style to the swimmer’s comfort level.
We love that they welcome all ages. They can help adult beginners who want to overcome deep-water anxiety at their own pace.
They focus entirely on private one-to-one and two-to-one swimming lessons, giving learners more individual attention throughout the session. This quiet, controlled setting takes away the usual noise that distracts nervous beginners.
The trade-off comes down to lesson format. If you want group classes, you have to travel to their Belfast or Lisburn locations.

Delighted with the quality of teaching
We have been working with S.W.I.M Carryduff for about a year and a half now. Our four children now receive lessons with S.W.I.M, using the 1 teacher – 2 children package. We are delighted with the quality of teaching and have watched each of our children make excellent progress while also enjoying their lessons too. Fiona and Orla are extremely warm and approachable and their communication is always clear and prompt. I highly recommend!

Classes cap out at 12 pupils for each 30-minute block, ensuring every child receives direct instructor feedback during drills. Instructors also carry out ongoing assessments, so children move up a stage as soon as they master the required skills.
It’s worth noting that they offer a free 16 and up women’s-only swimming lesson for those in Antrim and Newtownabbey.
Another perk is their pricing, starting at a reasonable £7.25 per session, dropping to £6.21 if you have a council MORE membership. The catch is their booking structure, since you must pay for at least 10 weeks upfront.

Perfect for both casual swims and proper training
I’ve been using Valley Leisure Centre for a few months now and really enjoy it. The gym has a good range of modern equipment, and it’s never too crowded. Staff are friendly and always happy to help. The pool is clean, well-maintained, and perfect for both casual swims and proper training. Great value for money and a solid choice if you’re in the area.

4. Andersonstown Leisure Centre

Website: https://www.better.org.uk/
Address: 132 Andersonstown Road
Contact: 028 9521 9850
Hours: Monday – Friday: 6:00 AM – 10:00 PM, Saturday – Sunday: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Andersonstown Leisure Centre stands out for their impressive facility, featuring a modern hall with a 25m main pool alongside a shallow teaching area. There’s also a raised poolside gallery where parents can watch without crowding the deck.
They offer a continuous pathway from baby SWIMBiES to advanced academy training for youths swimming over 100m. This full ladder in one place means kids never need to change venues as their stamina grows.
You get to build strong technique here, with foundation classes teaching young beginners core survival movements and water safety essentials. Meanwhile, development levels introduce all four competitive strokes and basic water rescue.
Adult learners, however, have fewer scheduling options, with regular swimming lessons running on Thursday evenings from 6:15 PM to 7:00 PM.

5. David Lloyd Belfast

Website: https://www.davidlloyd.co.uk/
Address: 115 Old Dundonald Road
Contact: 028 9041 3300, [email protected] (Sales), [email protected] (Members)
Hours: Monday – Friday: 6:00 AM – 10:00 PM, Saturday – Sunday: 7:00 AM – 9:00 PM
David Lloyd Belfast is on our list for their facility, featuring two heated pools: an indoor 25m and an outdoor 20m. This way, you can work on your progressive swimming tuition, regardless of the weather outside.
Coaching options cover babies from three months to adults. Children progress methodically from balance drills to technical breaststroke and butterfly work, whilst advanced athletes receive high-intensity Master Swim classes.
Adult swimmers can also join beginner courses to conquer basic water anxiety, or improver classes to rebuild their cardiovascular endurance.
The catch is that children’s swimming coaching costs extra on top of club membership, so families should factor in both expenses.

Everything is spotless, well organised
I had a full tour of David Lloyd’s facilities today and was so impressed. Everything is spotless, well organised, and you can tell a lot of thought has gone into the space. I especially loved that they’ve even included a safe area for babies in the changing rooms so parents have somewhere secure for little ones after swim classes.
There’s a incredible range of classes and equipment available, including tennis courts and heated outdoor pool areas. The staff and especially Gemma who gave us the tour were incredibly friendly and answered all our questions…

David Lloyd Belfast is my happy place
David Lloyd Belfast is my happy place. Great facilities – a huge, modern, well equipped gym; excellent indoor and outdoor pools; great classes. But what makes it is people. People like Jonny and Julie-Anne on the front desk; instructors like Jemma and Amanda; gym staff like Ryan and clubroom staff like Kaysey and Mandy. I’ve left so many brilliant staff out! And the members make it too easy- someone always says hello in a class. The book club is great craic once a month as well.
